It’s pretty clear that users want mobile access to websites. For some companies that can mean the difference between success and failure. You want to be found by search engines – Google, in particular – so you have to determine what are you doing right and what are you doing wrong. Right?
First and foremost, one URL is good. Some websites have used different URLs for different devices, i.e., desktop versus smartphone. According to Google, sites that use the same URL across all formats rank higher.
Failures are bad. Make sure every aspect of your mobile website works. Google does not like what they call common mistakes, but basically if you have something that doesn’t work (videos, links, redirects, etc.) it should be fixed.
Take a look at your mobile website to see if you are making the most of your traffic by doing the good and fixing the bad. In most situations, this is an area for your web designer or host to handle.
So what can you personally do to boost your website? In addition to the tips above, remember that the usual rules apply – you need to have engaging and compelling copy that people want to visit and share. And yes, shareable content is exceptionally important in the mobile world so do whatever you can to boost that aspect.
