Unfortunately, there are scams in every industry and SEO (Search Engine Optimization) is no exception. Most companies have received a piece of mass marketing mail or an email that promises them that they can be #1 on Google if they hire that company to handle their SEO. This is actually something a third party can never guarantee.  Google does not offer this to any company, which means if  you receive this tempting offer you should immediately discard it as it is a scam.

That said, there are legitimate SEO companies out there and they can help you boost the organic search value of your website. Never expect a company to make you #1 on Google, but with a good SEO company you can expect the following:

• Keyword research. Every SEO agency worth its salt knows that keywords are vital. While they may not have the power they once had, selecting the right and most recognized keywords for your website is the framework that draws organic searches.
• Review of your site structure and content. Your current website will be scanned to see if you’re using the current SEO best practices both on your content and behind the scenes. They’ll either give you tips to use to update your site or a strategy of SEO implementation will be created.
• Information on SEO and “assignments” for you. There are search techniques that can be implemented by other companies but some of them are best when they come from the business owner or employees. A great SEO company will explain the importance of constantly looking for ways to boost your organic search value by cooperating and working with other legitimate and valued companies/websites.

Remember, promises of a number one rank and thousands of links or new likes on social media are not what a legitimate foundation of SEO is based upon. The old adage of “if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is” is very accurate in the world of SEO.
